Privacy

Annular has no account, no server of its own for your data, no analytics, and no crash reporting. This page says exactly what it stores and what it connects to.

The short version

Annular reads your Claude usage and shows it to you. Everything it learns stays on your Mac. There is no Annular account, and we run no server that receives your data. The app contains no analytics, no tracking, and no crash reporting.

What stays on your Mac

  • Your sign-in. It is stored in the macOS Keychain as one item named Annular, and nowhere else. The item holds your token, the token that renews it, and your account email, organization, and plan. When Annular has no sign-in of its own and Claude Code is signed in on this Mac, Annular reads Claude Code's Keychain item instead, after macOS asks you, and never changes it. You can switch that off in Settings, Account.
  • Usage history. Annular keeps the percentages it has seen, with the time and the reset time, in a local file at ~/Library/Application Support/Annular/history.sqlite. It is used for the small charts and the forecast. It is kept for 90 days and left out of Time Machine backups. You can switch it off and delete it in Settings, History.
  • Settings and themes. Your preferences, including the record of which alerts you have already had, and your own themes are files in your Library folder.
  • The date you first installed Annular. It is written once to your preferences and is never sent anywhere.

Annular never sees your Claude password. It does not read your conversations, your prompts, or your files. The sign-in gives Annular the same kind of token Claude Code receives, with the permissions user:profile and user:inference. Annular uses it only to read your profile and your usage, and it never sends a prompt.

What Annular connects to

Annular talks to two parties: Anthropic, to read your usage, and annular.app, to look for updates.

  • api.anthropic.com: your usage and your profile, read with your token. By default every 2 minutes, and you can choose 1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes.
  • claude.ai and console.anthropic.com: used when you sign in with Claude. The sign-in page opens in your own browser. After that, console.anthropic.com renews your token in the background shortly before it expires. With the Claude Code login, Annular contacts neither.
  • annular.app: once a day, to look for an update, and to download one when there is one. That request names the app and its version, as an update check must, and nothing else about you or your Mac. Sparkle's system profile is switched off. We count update checks and downloads, so we know how many copies of each version are in use: for each one we keep what kind of request it was, the app version, and the time. We keep no IP address, no country, no cookie, and not the rest of the request.

Connections use TLS 1.2 or newer. Annular keeps no cookies and no network cache.

What Annular never does

  • It does not send your usage, your token, or anything else to us.
  • It does not include analytics, advertising, or crash reporting code.
  • It does not sell or share data, because it has none to sell or share.

Anthropic

When Annular reads your usage, Anthropic receives that request with your token, as it would from one of its own apps. Since version 1.0.4, Annular names itself honestly in every usage request, as Annular/<version> (https://annular.app), so Anthropic can tell the request comes from Annular. Anthropic's privacy policy covers what Anthropic does with it. Annular is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic or OpenAI.

This website

annular.app is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no scripts, and loads nothing from other companies. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver the page, as every web host must. We keep no logs of our own about visitors, and pages are not counted. The only thing we count is downloads and update checks, as described above: the kind, the app version, and the time.

Children

Annular is a developer tool and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the release notes say so when the app's behavior changed.
